RHD 1974 Stag- Rover V8 conversions by Peak Performance (Heathrow) London, brought to USA in 1989, stored until 2006. Now in San Diego being resto'd. Help! Any Rover or Stag guys out there...would love to hear from you. Only so much can be gleaned from books and Rimmer Bros website. I will fill in the empty bits on the profile later. The engine Code is on the bell housing flange but illegible to me, but I think it means the engine is an early run Rover V-8, that and the valve cover tells me it is a pre SD-1 Rover V-8..
Original plates in the UK were: GPP 391N so I know she was an "N" REG in the home counties, I have photocopy of the original MOT registration. This will be a trip when I go to CAL DMV with a 30 year old British MOT. I also have the CAL DMV slip that allowed the car to be driven from the port of importation (Oakland) in 1989 until licensed in CA. Unfortunately the car fell foul of the then current air emission regulations. Since she is a 1974 model, and it is the 21st Century, she is NOW currently exempt, so I should be able to get California plates which the original owner who shipped her from London UK could not accomplish. Man he must have loved this car.
I saw my first Stag in the UK in 1971 as a teenager I've loved them ever since and with that Rover V8, I believe Jeremy on Top Gear called "an heroic engine", I don't have to worry about the fragile Triumph 3.0 V8.
Yesterday 28 May 08- Rose roared to life and it's a helluva great burbly V8 sound she makes!
July 6 2008- still working out the bugs, finally got a color coded wiring diagram, so I can hook up the gauges and etc......been busy with the MG need to spend time on the STAG.
26 July 2008. New SS tailpipe, new shocks on the rear, finally a color wiring diagram and the Fuel, Temp and Voltmeter Gauges now work.
8 Aug 2008. Temp tags from California DMV, took out clock and put in Oil Pressure gauge. I'm now trying to sort out the wiring on the signals/brake lights etc. Hand signals for now.
