how to determine model year?

Greetings all.
I'm a first time newbie here. I'm glad to have found this board.
I am an apartment manager and have come into possession of a Spitfire that has been abandoned in the parking garage for quite a few years.
I have started the salvage paperwork but I can't figure out what the model year is. I think it's an early to mid 70's Mark IV.
Is there a way to use the VIN number to determine the year?
Or, is there another way?

Second question, once I've gained the title to this car, I would like to put it up for sale. How would I go about finding a Spitfire fan looking for a project car?

Thanks in advance.

Clopin

Jeff,

Check here for help determining the year: http://www.triumphspitfire.com/Ref.html

As for selling it, trying finding a local British car club and see if they will list it in their newsletter. A simple internet search should work:

The other day I got out my can-opener and started opening a can of worms when I thought to myself, 'What am I doing?'

Why don't you try the Spitfire/GT6 part of this forum site ?

Jeff, there are two Triumph clubs in the LA area:
http://www.sctoa.org
and
http://trsc1977.com/

Both would be happy to advertise your car for free. You could also list it with the national club at
http://www.vtr.org/classifiedPages/index.shtml

They require that you register, but it is free (don't have to join the club).

Watch out for scam artists, though.
