Ive had this idea in my head for weeks now.I thought about taking out the 2 seats and constructing a bench seat as im 6 2 there would be no problem reaching the shifter or pedals.
Any comments welcome, good or bad idea? Or maybe i should seek some counselling LOL

What are you going to do about the hand brake?

I had a 66 Mustang GT coupe years ago with a factory bench seat ... It was cool on dates ...

Was going to have a U shape in the front of the bench seat to accomodate the hand brake and have the seat belt holsters coming through the bench seat.
Any more thoughts most welcome

if your looking for more leg room how are you going to work around the kick up that is behind the seats now? that is the thing that keeps me from moving my seat rails back now....
i think that if you go on top of it with the bench your head will be well above the top of the wind screen....
just my two cents

Wait, what? why exactly? never seen one done before, though it might be cool, I think the transmission tunnel is fairly high though...

Yes Bill i can see your point, its the small flared part on the tunnel behind the seat that stops the rails going back any further i figure there is a couple more inches if the bench seat went sort of over and around.
This may not be 1 of my better ideas.

The stock seats sit you pretty well below the center hump. A bench seat would end up raising your rear end up about 6". Don't see that as being a good thing for a tall guy.

Certainly it could be done, I just don't see it gaining you anything worthwhile.

Andy,

I seem to remember that you posted a current picture of your interior. Is this the picture?

I think I can see it, kinda like the back seat in a 80's trans-am. Is that what you are thinking? I would say try to mock it up so you can see if it looks the same in the real world as it does in your head. Making the mock-up firm enough to sit in would be good. Maybe start by stretching a blanket over the backs of both seats so they look like the back of a bench seat. The worst that can happen is you don't like it so you change it back.

Don't understand, I'm 6'2 & 185 lbs, w/ no problem fitting into the car. Also over 50 so I don't think I'm limber as I was at 18. Shoes size 11 fit the pedals OK too. Now my 6'7 son is another story.

if the seat was thick enough that it would be the same height as the parcell shelf when compressed, you could mount the backing a couple of inches back on the shelf, since the curve of your back would not contact it with the shelf, only the seat and the backing.

All you need is a custom hot rod tilt steering wheel, you'll fit. Now, who gets the seat in the middle.
