Tonneau cover pattern?

Any one have a pattern for a TR4 tonneau cover out there? Or, an old moldy ripped one with a bad zipper they would like to sell?

I want to look at having my Tonneau for the TR4 and TR3 sewn up locally. Upholstery of decent quality is pretty reasonable around here. I just had a 65 Mustang done. Door panels, carpet, front and rear seats, back window shelf, and dash pad, done in two tone for $750.00.

If not the Tonneau, then the top cover for TR4 or TR3? How about an old TR3 top?

If this works out, I could offer them to the list.

Sorry all, but I need to vent a little bit. 72 Stag with the original motor and an apparent broken jack shaft in Mom's car. I completed the restoration of this car a couple of years ago. The short block was gone thru, but the heads left alone. Got it running, and pulled the heads to replace. Then, finally after 11 years owned/ 5 years of work the car made it to a car show in Portland OR via a car trailer as I didn't trust the car to make the 50 mile trip one way. Great showing for a car owned since 2001. Long story short, a few weekends later the car quit while going down the freeway. Now we get to the problem. In disassembling everything, my brother has managed for the SECOND time to pop the head off the bolt on the water pump, and says its seized in there... I seriously doubt this. Im not sure what he did, but after he popped the head he started asking about the proper tool to remove it... Too late. The first time a friend and I spent several hours, and finally came to the realization that we just needed to get it out, and if we destroyed it, oh well. So we welded a chunk of "C" channel to it, and used a couple of pry bars to get it out. My question is about how to get this removed now? Does anyone have any tricks or tips, besides don't break the head off the bolt? Since I need to order parts anyway, I will be calling Stag parts USA and asking if Mike has any suggestions too. Thanks for any suggestions. Kyle.

Thought I would challenge the minds here.

I have a 2000 Ford F150 that has started to have some overheating and loss of cab heat issues. I live in northern Mn. and the first time it happened it was well below 0 so I assumed it was an antifreeze issue. But it has happened several times even when it was in the mid 20's.

When I start the truck and warm it up I have heat and everything seems fine. After a period of time the heat cuts out and I only get cold air. The engine at that point starts to run hot. Several times the heat has returned and the engine temp went back to normal.

1) bad thermostat
2) radiator blockage
3) water pump

I will be taking it to my mechanic on Friday but this has me puzzled and I know everyone loves problem solving.

Thanks Bruce

In 2007, my brother and I entered the Bay to Birdwood rally, in Adelaide, intending to take his 1947 MGTC. With about 6 weeks to go, he discovered that the rally was for cars made 1955-1975. We looked through our stock and decided that the Herald was the least amount of work to get back on the road.

Well we made it with a day to spare, and we drove across to Adelaide in company with dad in his 1971 Daimler.
The trip was uneventful, apart from losing the brakes in the first 30 km (loose brake line), and the wiper motor failing, (fixed in the hotel room Friday night).

We travelled the 850km in about 10 hours, the little 948 sitting on about 5000rpm. A strong headwind blew up about lunchtime, which dropped the speed down a bit, but we tucked behind the Daimler and resumed our 100 - 110 kph.

Bay to Birdwood. They close off a lot of roads through the city, while a couple of thousand classic cars drive to the National Motor Museum, in the hills above Adelaide, and tens of thousands are out spectating. A memorable day.

Back to Melbourne we lost a tyre (never did get round to fitting new ones), and dad was booked for speeding, but the car hummed back, now with a tailwind very easily, and remarkably comfortably. Top was down all the way.

I have loaded some photos at Flickr

I'll share my recent experience with you all here in "Odds & Ends" because it really applies to all Triumphs (and LBC's generally).

I was recently rebuilding a Sunbeam Alpine engine and had ordered up new .030" rod and main bearings... I specified Vandervell because they're the OEM bearings and they tend to be pretty reliable and long-wearing bearings amongst the choices out there. While waiting for them to arrive I had my local machine shop cut my crank to .030", re-size my big ends, re-bush and press in my little ends and balance everything nicely. It came back looking wonderful... until I went to install it.

Well, it seems the bearings you buy these days are NOT always properly sized, even with a good brand name like Vandervell. When I used Plastigauge to measure the clearances on installation (I always do this as a last check) I was ending up with a measured clearance that was far outside of factory specifications. I measured the crank and it was spot-on, so the machine shop had done their job properly. I then measured the installed bearings (at proper torque) and found the culprit - they were indeed too thin. (Though the rods were fine, curiously). As a check to be sure the block was right, I checked the mains openings and they were to factory spec, so that confirmed my findings.

So, I ended up having to order new .040" mains and then take the block and crank over to a very good machine shop to have them cut the crank's mains yet again (grrr!) to match the bearings, leaving just .0015" clearance, which is what I was shooting for in the first place.

To say I am not a happy camper is an understatement. I hate cutting vintage stuff any further than I have to, as it's becoming very scarce. Cutting it twice really galls me, not to mention the expense, time & aggro.

So... my recommendation for anyone installing new bearings is to get your crank cut to the bearing size, don't count on them being 'right' out of the box. Have them matched by your machine shop. The quality of the available parts is becoming less reliable, so you can't just cut to spec and expect it all to fit when you're done - you may end up with a pretty sloppy fit and wondering why your oil pressure isn't what it should be.

Second recommendation, of course, is always use Plastigauge to do that last check on all your crank's bearings... it's an old racer's friend and it's cheap insurance. Good speed shops usually have it in stock and it's an easy way to ensure your motor's properly blueprinted.

As another aside note, also relating to new product quality, I had a close look at the old thrust washers in the motor and the new replacement ones I purchased. The copper bearing surface thickness on the new bearings is a good 25% thinner than what was on the old original thrust washers (as measured against the old front thrust washer which suffers virtually no real wear in service). So, my suggestion there is that if you do have a good original front washer, move it to the back and install a replacement one at the front. This will give you the maximum bearing material where you need it most.

My question is - is there a list of parts that cross over between the Stag and other models? As a Product Manager, I would have been all over leveraging parts from other models.
Herald Coupe at Northern Lights Rendezvous

Hi Everyone I posted a it about this in another thread but here is a bit more detail. I was at Northern Lights Rendezvous in Kenora Ontario about a week ago and what a great time! I was impressed by the organization of the event! My highlite was the drive to Rushing River park. We had 79 British cars on the road in parade, what a thrill to drive in the middle of that pack!

The guest speaker for the event was Dennis Gage from My Classic Car. It was great to meet Dennis Gage, and to hear his
stories a real genuine guy with an amazing CV and the best gig on earth! He also seemd to really like the Heraldand commented on teh color and the fact that he had never seen one before.

The car show part of the event was outstanding too, even though it rained. We were under a large canopy and everyone stayed pretty dry and clean. The show was not a concours kind of thing but more about what pretty cars do you like. There were some fantastic cars there too, a 1939 Jag SS 100, a beautiful 120 and a 140's. So many great cars, a Jenson Interceptor, some specacular TR's a Morgan beautiful Healy 3000's some beautiful MGB's (this was the feature car celebrating 50 years)Even a couple of German cars made it out.

I am super stoked to say that my little Hearld Coupe won a couple of trophies. It did surprisingly well in the car show voting. It won the Silver medal in the public vote, and most exciting for me, it won the overall vote from event delegates.
The public vote was a fundraiser for the Scouts and people could buy as many ballots as they wished and vote as many times. The delegate vote was one ballot per delegate and I feel honoured to have won that vote with the little Coupe!

We never built this coupe with winning any shows in mind. We built it just wanting a pretty and unusual driver that we could fit our two boys into. So I was stunned and was really gratifying to win something like this.

More importantly the Herald was out for it's first long drive after restoration, about 140 miles each way, and the car performed so nicely. It ran strong and was comfortable and easy to drive though inside was a bit loud. So good to be able to gain some confidence in the car!

All in all it was a great weekend! Gotta say thanks to all the volunteers from the various clubs that made it happen!
Cheers.

Hey dudes, I might be getting a Herald convertible in the near future, I am a Jap car guy (Datsun/Nissan to be specific) and don't know hardly anything about these pom cars. Here are my questions-

1. To turn the car on do I just put the key in the ignition and turn it (like with a normal modernish car), or is there something else I should do as well?

2. I would like to swap the convertible roof out and put on a coupe roof. Will I need extra parts? Where can I get a coupe roof? how much do they cost? (I live in Australia btw)

3. I would like to run some negative front camber. Is this possible? Are there parts I can get to modify this? Is there adjustable suspension parts available?

4. Lowering block for the rear. How much and where from?

5. Can I put a swaybar on the rear suspension? also how much and where from?

6. If it has the twin carb setup can I replace the airbox with bell mouths instead? (race car styles)

7. Can I convert the PCD to 4x114.3 or anything else?

8. Can I run 14x8 wheels? What is the widest I can go with these cars? (I like width and dish :D)

What other modifications can you reccomend for the car?

Thankyou to anyone who can help :)

I bought the above in order to "work around" CA emission laws as my 1976 had all the emissions parts removed. However a 1976 can only have that year or newer engine in it. Therefore I need to sell the pair on to someone that needs them. The engine was in LA and AZ most of its life and turns over nicely and the gear box goes through the gears precisely.

The engine and gear box are currently at Ed Wright's British car repair in San Rafael, Marin Count CA. He needs them removed, so time is of the essence. I paid $800 for the pair but am open to offers. The purchaser will pay for their shipping costs and the shop are willing to work with a shipper on your behalf.

Please contact me directly via dave@crstuning.com with your offer.

Hi everyone, I'm popping over from the MG experience to ask a couple of questions about my father-in-laws '73 Triumph Stag.

He picked it up from a guy who had in in storage. The original engine was included in the sale (condition unknown), but it had a 327 Chevy engine installed. The exterior is good and the interior is in excellent condition. The engine in it runs, but the gas tank needs to be cleaned or replaced. In true rednek form, I think a guy put an intake in that does not allow the hood to close. The brake system is missing the master cyclinder.

I'm trying to convince hime to get rid of this since he has two more promising projects (please don't take offense) in a '73 MGB and a '52 MGTD.

I don't know too much about Stags, other than the original engines are a piece of work. What do you guys think? Anyone interested?

Greetings all.
I'm a first time newbie here. I'm glad to have found this board.
I am an apartment manager and have come into possession of a Spitfire that has been abandoned in the parking garage for quite a few years.
I have started the salvage paperwork but I can't figure out what the model year is. I think it's an early to mid 70's Mark IV.
Is there a way to use the VIN number to determine the year?
Or, is there another way?

Second question, once I've gained the title to this car, I would like to put it up for sale. How would I go about finding a Spitfire fan looking for a project car?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Folks!

I just Discovered this Fantastic Deli in Towne Lake, Woodstock, Ga! Monti makes Sandwiches I long Forgot Existed... he also Cooks his own Meats-- Also, Monti has a Nice Parking Lot too ;-) Click here to See Monti's Place ---> http://www.townelaker.com/townelaker/2007/04/2007-4-973.php . I live Here and this is the Home of the Little Shop of Horrors where we Build the Powerblock & Accessories ;-)

Good Food & Good Cheer go Hand in Hand in my Book, so I mentioned to the Owner the Possibility that his Place was a Good Spot for of Us British Atlantains to Congregate and Have Fun... He said, "Why Not?".

The only problem is that he Closes Shop by 3pm, so I figure this could be a Morning to Afternoon Affair where We can Gather, Group Up, Mount Up, & Hit the Road when the Food Disappears on a Weekend ;-)

There are some very Beautiful Country Roads that I can Lead you Guys to from Towne Lake for the Rest of the Afternoon.

Towne Lake is a Master Planned Development in North Atlanta that is Right off I-575 on the Way to the North Georgia Mountains-- a Perfect Base Camp!

Take a Peek,

Our 71 Stag is ready for an engine overhaul or replacement. I would like to stay with the original engine, however the parts are quite expensive for an engine that wasn't very good to start with. Is there conversion kits to put in a Rover or small block GM or Ford engine? Also the steering rack is starting to leak has anyone replaced the seals in their rack and how hard is it?
Thanks
