Brake Bleeding …… Bloody Cold ………. Bleeding Brakes!
Created on 2007-01-20 19:36:01
Well last weekend I didn’t write it up but I tried again to bleed the brakes. I tried to bleed the master by itself using plastic hoses on the ends of the hard lines that go into the pressure failure switch. This worked in as much as fluid was circulating but there still seemed to be air in the master cylinder. In any event I wasn’t doing right as I didn’t submerge the hoses going back into the master.
Monday I called in some backup (thanks John and Chuck) and we spent a couple of hours bleeding again and even tried the master on it’s own again but no matter what we tried we couldn’t get pressure and there still seemed to be air coming from the master cylinder. This despite basically melting a hose onto the end of the hard lines to ensure there wasn’t a leak sucking air in at the hard line to plastic hoses join. So the conclusion is the master cylinder seems to be the issue even though it had worked before. Maybe when the crap was drained from the plastic filler something got down instead and is creating a leak somehow.
Today I proceeded to remove the master cylinder and this turned out to not be too bad. It took about 2 hours with the longest time being the removal of the lower bolt holding in the cylinder to the pedal box. I managed to leave the pedals installed and in place along with the clutch master. Hopefully I can secure the new master and get things back together shortly. Just need to find the best place for the acquisition of the new master cylinder.
